In the Classroom

Our kindergarten classroom is a busy one!  Every day the children will participate in whole group and/or small group instruction.  Daily lessons will be provided in a language and literacy framework to help foster your child's literacy development.  We will enjoy reading books aloud, playing with words (including repetition and rhyme, chanting, singing or saying poems together) and guided reading and writing.  Your child will have small group reading instruction with student readers and decodable readers that they will bring home to read with you!  Math is also an important part of your child's day.  Children will have the opportunity to build mathematical concepts by manipulating objects and through real life experiences.  Concepts that your child will be learning include counting, patterning, sorting, classifying, making comparisons, number concepts and beginning addition and subtraction concepts.  Our curriculum also includes handwriting. Your child will learn to print capital letters, lowercase letters and numbers.  Children will have practice simple words and sentences.
